Managing Acne

Over our lives, most of us will form some sort of relationship with acne and it can often be difficult to deal with and knowing where to start can seem daunting.

Firstly, please remember, your skin is not a flaw. Acne is normal. Dark circles are normal. Large pores are normal. Blackheads are normal.

We may think it’s a battle that can’t be won, but there are ways of getting it under control. It can be tempting to squeeze spots and blemishes, particularly those pesky whiteheads; but you can often do more harm than good with the potential of creating more inflammation, darker marks on your face, which are more noticeable and even a scar. Check out our socials for advice on how to extract spots correctly and seek professional care if needed.

It goes without saying but please speak to your GP if you're concerned you are experiencing a severe case of acne, which can include lots of large, painful papules, pustules, nodules or cysts; you might also have some scarring. There is medication you can take if needed.

Whilst some cases of acne are unavoidable and down to your genes; there is many cases where there are ways of keeping your skin clear by nailing a skincare routine.

All the MESOA skincare range will battle against acne, pimples, and blackheads, so you’re already off to a good start in protecting your face. Our products are free from harsh chemicals and include only essential oils that will help your skin thrive and not aggregate or irritate you.

The best way to prevent an outbreak is to stick to a routine. Your chosen products, like the MESOA range, need to contain ingredients that will prevent the formation of spots and manage them should they appear. Your regime needs to be gentle on your skin, needs to keep it hydrated, and you need to stick to it! It’s just like the gym, at the beginning, it’s hard, but it’s a work in progress, and consistency is key!

We’re all capable of improving our skin through the skincare products we use to the food we eat. Here’s some tips on how you can prevent and manage that relationship.

>Wash Right
We all (should) know a bar of soap will dry your skin, which of course, can lead to an acne breakout. Using a good face wash, like our Cleansing Face Wash, will rid your skin of all the nasties, including excess oil, dead skin, and grime. It's best to wash every morning, evening and after any time you've become particularly sweaty.

>Scrub Away
Acne is often the result of clogged pores. So, there’s only one thing for it, our Deep Cleansing Exfoliant. Clean out all the hard-to-reach places on your face with a good scrub, eliminating all the dead skin cells and other acne-generating grime!

>Go Hydrate
So, there’s an old wives tale that moisturising can actually lead to acne, which isn't true. Our Revitalising Moisturiser will help fight against acne by not clogging your pores. It will also hydrate your skin as well as seal the goodness to help prevent a breakout. No matter your skin type, using a Revitalising Moisturiser twice a day is a good habit to have and will give dull skin a glow in no time!

>Shave Time
Starting with the basics. Don’t use old razors, and don’t shave on dry skin. If you’re lazy with your shaving routine, you invite irritated skin. Old razors will wreak havoc and cause a build-up of acne-causing bacteria to your face, something that can be easily avoided, and shaving dry will mean dragging a razor across your face spreading all that badness as you go. You need to prep your face for a shave, so be sure to shower, cleanse and exfoliate first, then go ahead and use our premium Hydrating Shaving Gel for the perfect smooth finish.

>Maintenance
All the tips here will help manage and prevent acne build-up, but you need to stick to it. Invest in yourself and your skin and develop a simple routine that works for you. There are no days off, you actually need to do it twice, and know that skincare is for life, not just for the weekend nights out!

Get your skincare sorted, eat well, and watch your skin thrive! Say goodbye to acne for good!
