Understanding Male Skin

We all want healthy skin. That feeling of smoothness and softness. No one wants itchy, spotty, patchy skin. Plus, we don’t want to age. We want to look as young as we can for as long as we can, and as well as looking after our bodies on the inside, we must also pay attention to the outside.

Male skin is quite thick, thicker than the ladies’, tighter, firmer, stronger. But men can also be more prone to oilier skin, and having more pores, which release sweat, oil, and toxins through the skin, meaning more grime. Dry skin is also more popular with men than their female counterparts and apparently men can also be very sensitive, believe it or not.

Testosterone levels in any man will steadily decline over time as we get older and can be held accountable for the changes in our skin as we age. Testosterone is potent stuff and understanding the effects it has on our skin is critical if we want to continue to look our best, therefore we must help by caring for it. We will all benefit from daily cleansing and moisturising, which will help our skin to replenish, to heal and to remain healthy. Male skin is often rough in texture and appearance and will require a tailored skincare approach if it’s going to thrive.

Knowing your skin type is key to making an informed decision based on the needs of your skin to care and protect. Let’s take a look at a few.

Oily Skin

Oily skin produces an excess of sebum, which will cause the skin to appear shiny and will also feel greasy to the touch, certainly over the forehead, nose, and chin. Those with oily skin will be more likely to have enlarged pores, develop acne and be more prone to breakouts.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is typically rough, flaky, and scaly, and dull in its appearance. It often shows lines and feels tight and may become itchy or easily irritated.

Normal Skin

Normal skin is balanced, neither dry nor oily. Breakouts are rare, as is flakiness and tightness. Pores are generally smaller than other skin types, and the texture is smooth and not as sensitive.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is just that, a combination of skin types. For example, the forehead could be oily and the cheeks dry or normal.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin can factor in lots of other skin types. Oily and sensitive, dry and sensitive, normal and sensitive. Sensitive skin is usually triggered by certain ingredients likes a fragrance, as well as environmental factors. If your skin is sensitive, you must try and determine what triggers your sensitivity, to avoid those specific ingredients moving forward.

Just like our fingerprints, our skin is unique too. What works for you may not work for the next guy, which is why all MESOA products are developed for all skin types, with natural oils and ingredients.
