It’s fair to say that, over the course of my lifetime, I have been – and continue to be – many different things, to many different people.
It’s also fair to say that each title has shaped the man I am today.
Because, during this time, I’ve experienced and learnt from plenty of highs, and plenty of lows.
Lows that include having to deal with mental health issues – some, my own.
Stress. Anxiety. Depression. ADHD. PTSD.
The problem of mental health is, without doubt, an extremely complex issue; for which there isn’t simply a one-size-fits-all solution.
The statistics surrounding it, however, don’t lie.
Let’s take PTSD, for example. Even though it can take years for the symptoms of PTSD to manifest, their effects are very real: according to a recent BBC feature on mental health, “campaigners estimate that last year, at least 58 veterans took their own lives”.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics also show that there were a total of 4,382 UK male suicides in 2017 – and that’s really upsetting.
Thankfully, there is plenty of brilliant work going on to help those suffering, as well as change the stigma of male mental health.
All this work is vital in making the signs and symptoms of mental health more visible to – as well as the conversations surrounding it more open and accepted by – more people.
But I wanted to do my bit to help.
My bit to help men of all ages. Of all races and countries. From all walks of life.
Which is why I set up MESOA.
So what is MESOA? It’s a grooming brand that helps the way men groom for the better – and the way they live for the better, too.
But why a grooming brand? After all, there are plenty of other male grooming brands on the market, right? Right – but I didn’t want to create just another male grooming brand.
I wanted to create a male grooming brand that reflected the fact that times have changed.
A male grooming brand that challenged the stereotypical notions of masculinity.
Because, as men, we’ve come a long way since the days of being taught to bottle up our feelings and use just the one bar of soap for all our grooming needs.
And even though times have changed for the better, there’s still lots of work that needs to be done.
Today, men have more pressure on our shoulders, situations to deal with and choices to make than ever. From fitness to food; financial wealth to mental health; beard oils to brushes: navigating through modern life is tough. That’s why I also wanted to create a male lifestyle community that helps men on their journey through it.
And, just like every journey, ours starts with a movement.
A movement created by today’s trailblazers, for tomorrow’s pioneers.
A movement driven by an online content hub for men.
This hub is known as The MESOA Community: a space where like-minded individuals can learn and talk about anything – and feel completely comfortable about doing so.
Physical to psychological, biological to societal; it’s a space that recognises and educates men on the link between all aspects of modern life.
Simply put, it’s a space that helps more men, gain more knowledge about more subjects.
Which, ultimately, means more men living their best life; something that’s beneficial for their own good – as well as the people and wider society around them.
Look good. Feel good. Do good.
That’s our mantra, and this video shows how we’re going to achieve it.
Creating a benefit for wider society, also meant that I wanted to create a grooming brand that gave a percentage of its profits to male suicide prevention charities across the world.
Which is why we’ve already partnered with UK-based charity, CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). Because what makes us different, is the difference our products make.
