You may think getting a healthy-looking beard is as simple as just letting it grow. After all, it is hair, and that’s what hair does best. Right?
Not quite. If you want a good looking, healthy beard there’s a little more to it.
First, it’s a good idea to keep it clean, so wash it regularly. But whilst you (hopefully) wash your head hair, and the rest of your body, daily, that shouldn’t be the case for your beard.
Washing it every day would strip it of its natural oils and cause it to dry out. The opposite of what we’re trying to achieve. Washing it twice a week with a beard shampoo should suffice. There are specialist organic beard shampoos on the market that contain softener to help prevent a wiry beard.
Next use a conditioner. You don’t want a dry, scratchy beard and conditioning will certainly help, whilst moisturising it at the same time.
The final treatment should be a good beard oil. Yes, the shampoo and conditioner will help soften your beard, but the best beard oils will soften even further, prevent dandruff, hydrate and leave your beard looking and feeling healthy and vibrant.
Of course, if you choose the right beard oil, (like our vegan friendly Rejuvenating Beard Oil), not only will your beard be left with an impressive, glossy shine, but it will smell great too.
Simply apply 3-4 drops of beard oil to your hand, then spread evenly across your palms and fingers, working the oil into your beard against the grain. Then smooth down from top to bottom.
The final step is to brush and/or comb your beard. This should be done not only to train and style your beard the way you want it but also to remove dirt and dead skin and to distribute the oil evenly.
The choice of when to use a brush or a comb requires us to go into more detail so watch this space for more info soon!
